←→The Aktau mountains are what happens when geology decides to show its work: white, cream, pink, rust, whole eras stacked in visible bands, an exam answer left open on the desk. You walk on pale clay that was a lakebed when mammals were a startup, and the silence has that mineral quality that makes your own pulse sound like an intrusion.
I put the camera on the tripod and stood on the ridge for scale, hands on hips, and the picture came back with the proportions reversed: the mountains look calm and I look like the temporary phenomenon. Correct, of course. Everything soft in that frame is me.
Water math is simple out here, two liters in the bag and none in the landscape. I stayed until the light started leaning, then walked back with striped dust on my boots, carrying, as always, more photographs than conclusions.
