1907-07-07 Born in Melitopol

Pavel Sudoplatov is born in Melitopol and rises through the security organs.

1940-08-21 Organizes Trotsky's killing

Sudoplatov's 'special tasks' unit is credited with the assassination of Trotsky, struck down on 20 August 1940 and dead the next day; his service file names only the Konovalets killing of 1938 and the Skoblin case of 1937.

1953 Arrested after Beria's fall

With Beria's fall, Sudoplatov is arrested on 21 August 1953. He is held five years before the Supreme Court's military collegium sentences him on 12 September 1958 to fifteen years; he is released on 21 August 1968.

1994 Publishes 'Special Tasks'

In old age Sudoplatov publishes his memoir, the richest and least reliable source on the poison laboratory.
