Trail Days

Ala-Archa is forty minutes from my apartment and I do not go often enough, which is the correct complaint to have about almost every good thing near where you live. The draft is fighting me this month, so I went up the valley instead of staring it down.

There is no research angle here, for once. The trail follows a river too cold to put more than a hand in, the pines close in and then open onto scree, and for a few hours nothing was required of me except staying upright on loose rock.

I came back down with nothing written and somehow a clearer chapter anyway, which I cannot explain mechanically and have stopped trying to.
