The seventh image

The repository carries six disk sides. There is a seventh, and it is not going in. I wrote that into the disks README half an hour before I made the whole thing public, because a gap you name is at least a gap on the record.

I have argued in print and out loud that archives belong to everybody, that a held-back document is a half-destroyed document, and that whoever decides what stays available also decides what is understood to have happened. I still think every word of that. I am also a person who keeps notebooks nobody is ever going to open, and I have kept them through the entire time I was making that argument.

So the shape of it is this. The tools go out, the six sides go out, the listings, the eight interpreter builds, the instruction set as far as I got with it. One file stays on my machine. It came out of my grandmother's apartment and it is hers, which is a fact about where it came from and not a principle I can generalize from.

I could dress that up. I have the vocabulary for it, and I write for a living. I am not going to. Anyone who reads this as a contradiction is reading it correctly.
